One of the
main concerns of all parents is
the health of their children.
Good health is essential in the
welfare of the child. Although
it is not necessary to become
obsessed by this, it is not
advisable either to trust to
luck something as valuable as
the health of a child.
Fortunately medical science
nowadays has sufficient
knowledge and experience to take
an active part in the control
and improvement of health during
childhood. The HILU MEDICAL
CENTRE offers continuous medical
attention to the child from
birth to adolescence, with
effective means to insure that
the growth and development of
the child advance normally. Only
in that way is it possible to
detect any illness or deviation
from the norm at an early stage.
Information is the basis of
prevention.
It is
important that the parents are
well informed, that they know
the main stages of growth and
development of the infant, and
that they are properly informed
about the care that the child
requires in every developmental
stage. It has to be considered
that every child is an
individual with his particular
characteristics and needs, which
cannot be applied to any other
child. Because of this it is
obvious that the best source of
information, and which offers
most security, is the
paediatrician. He checks the
child at monthly intervals over
the years, following his
development. He thus knows the
child and also his family and
surroundings.
The
assessment visits.
It is not
sufficient to attend the doctor
when we think that the child
might be ill. At present, the
health system especially
emphasises the protection of the
health of the infant. No child
should be deprived of a rigorous
and regular health check. The
assessments should be carried
out, even though they may not
seem necessary, as they provide
very valuable information,
allowing the gathering of the
data necessary to evaluate the
state of the child and his
particular development.
The
paediatrician, more than a
doctor, is a friend for the
future
For the
paediatrician’s task to be
really effective, it is
fundamental that the child and
the parents consider him as a
friend, someone whom they trust
and can consult and speak to
without fear or reservation.
From the
first moment
If it is
important to maintain a medical
follow up during infancy, it is
even more important to monitor
the first moments of life, when
it is vital to check that all is
well, in order to intervene
immediately should any problem
arise. The objective is that all
children be under medical
supervision from birth, and
every day we advance towards
that end. The paediatrician
monitoring this stage of life is
termed a neonatologist.
Chronologically the
paediatrician covers all stages
from birth to adolescence.
During this period of life
several phases are
differentiated: newly born
(first month of life), lactation
period (1-12 months of life),
infant (1 - 6 years), school
child (6-12 years), adolescent
(12-18 years).
