Type A
botulinum toxin is the essential
constituent of the well known
BOTOX® (known as VISTABEL® in
its cosmetic variant) This
cosmetic treatment is probably
the most used most widely used
throughout the world and,
especially, in this country.
Despite the wide use of this
treatment it still has many
critics, who do not value the
benefits of Botox®, clearly
because they lack knowledge of
the product and its excellent
cosmetic effects.
Initially it
was used to treat muscle spasms.
Nowadays it is one of the
treatments that offer the best
results in the correction and
elimination of expression lines,
by infiltrating the muscle under
the area of skin that we wish to
treat with a very fine needle.
The toxin acts by relaxing the
muscle and thereby inhibiting
muscular movement, thus making
the wrinkle disappear and giving
a youthful look to the skin.
It is used to treat:
- COSMETIC USE. The most
widely used. Reduces
wrinkles.
- HYPERHIDROSIS. Excess
sweating, mainly in the
armpits but also in hands
and feet.
- TREATMENT OF MUSCULAR
SPASMS Very common in
patients suffering from
cerebral palsy.
- STRABISMUS AND
BLEPHAROSPASM Reduces the
action of the ocular muscles
in the treatment of
strabismus and also spasms
of the eyelids.
- MIGAINE. Especially for
those migraines due to
tension, as it reduces the
activity of the cranial
muscles, which are the cause
of this type of headache.
- It is also being used in
the treatment of URINARY
INCONTINENCE, ANAL FISSURE,
SPASTICITY produced by
disorders of the central
nervous system, MUSCULAR
DYSTONIAS (face, jaws,
masseter muscle and vocal
chords) TEMPORO-MANDIBULAR
PAIN, DIABETIC NEUROPATHY.
